Muskellunge – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Muskellunge:
The Muskellunge or Muskie is a large predatory freshwater fish native to the lakes and large rivers of North America. It is the largest member of the pike family. Generally these fish grow to be between 28-48 inches (.71-1.2 meters) weighing in the area of 5-36 pounds (2.3-16 kilograms) They can grow to be much larger – over 6 feet (2 meters) long weighing 70 pounds (32 kilograms.) They are the top predator in the lake, and feed on nearly all animals that might be around; crayfish, frogs, fish, ducklings, snakes, mice, muskrats and other rodents. These freshwater monsters are so bold they will sometimes attack humans in shallow water. They are also highly prized by fishermen and women. Unfortunately, because of their low productive rate they have become very scarce in much of their former range. Anglers are encouraged to “catch and release” when they hook a Muskie.

Artist’s notes:
The Muskellunge was completed on 2.22.2013. Muskies are legendary fish in the state I grew up in (Minnesota) I believe I caught one once, when I was a kid – a pretty small one. I know these fish can grow to be pretty huge, and once they get large enough they have little to fear from anything else in their environment. I found a good reference photo on the website of the talented underwater photographer Eric Engbretson and when I had correctly for the color distortion of the fish in the water I felt I had come up with a pretty good representation of the this amazing fish.
