Scarlet Tanager – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Scarlet Tanager:
The Scarlet Tanager is a songbird native to North America. While it is called a tanager the bird is not actually a member of the Thraupidae (tanager) family but the Cardinalidae (cardinal) family. It is found throughout much of the eastern forests of the US and Canada. During migration the bird migrates southwards though Central America into areas of north central South America. While the body of the male is a striking cardinal red with black wings, the female is an olive yellow with darker brownish wings. The bird feeds mostly on insects but will also eat buds from trees and various fruits.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Scarlet Tanager was completed on 12.28.2012. I was putting together a collection of animals native to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area – which straddles the border between Minnesota and Canada – and I wanted to add a colorful songbird that one might see there. I selected the Scarlet Tanager, in large part because I wanted to draw one of these colorful birds. The drawing is based on a photo by Don Delaney
