Sheep Crab – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Sheep Crab:

Sheep Crab are the largest members of the spider crab family and native to the coastlines and kelp forests of the Pacific ocean. They are fairly large crustaceans with a carapace of about 6.5 inches for males (17 centimeters) males and 4.5 inches (11 centimeters) wide for females. These crabs are fairly common and are often encountered standing in the open by divers. Otherwise, they spend their time hidden in rocky places, using their formidable camouflage to stay hidden. Unlike the other crabs found in their ecosystem such as Dungeness and Red Crab there is no large market for Sheep Crab as food, although they are edible.

The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Description

Fine art illustration of a Sheep Crab (Loxorhynchus grandis.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.

Artist’s notes:

The Sheep Crab was completed on 3.24.2012. I’ve encountered these bizarre looking crustaceans while diving off the coast in Monterey, California. I can’t say that when I fist saw one I really considered drawing one. But as I’ve added more and more animals native to the Pacific kelp forests I’ve taken another look at some of the more common animals you normally encounter. Additionally the anatomy and exoskeletons of crustaceans really lend themselves well to this style of illustration. The drawing is based on a photo by Brenna Green.
