Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle:
The Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle is a subspecies of longhorn beetle native to the riparian forests of the Central Valley of California from Redding to Bakersfield. The insect is listed as a Federally threatened species. They are medium sized beetles, growing to about .5-1.0 inch (1.25-2.5 cm) with the females slightly larger. Due to the extensive and widespread habitat loss, there is a push to help protect this beetle along with the ever shrinking habitat of riparian (the interface between land and a river or stream) forests which the beetle needs to survive.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Artist’s notes:
The Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetle was completed on 8.24.2010. This is part of a project for the visitors center for the Lodi watershed area south of Sacramento. I was unfamiliar with the species of beetle, so I had to do a fair amount of research on it to find out what the anatomy of the insect was. Apart from some color variations, including some that are more orange than red, I believe it’s pretty accurate.
