Information about the Acorn Woodpeckers:

Acorn Woodpeckers (Melanerpes formicivorus) are called so because of their dependence on the acorn. These birds live in extended family groups. Unlike most birds, they are able to store large amounts of food by drilling holes into the wood of dead trees, telephone poles or even wooden buildings, then storing acorns into the holes. The birds also feed on insects, tree sap and fruit. They reside in coastal oak forests on the west coast of North America, down through Central and into South America.

The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Description

Fine art illustration of some Acorn Woodpeckers (Melanerpes formicivorus.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.

Artist’s notes:

The Acorn Woodpeckers drawing was completed on 8.25.2010. This was commissioned at part of a project for the Lodi Lake Watershed Nature area, and the illustration is part of a large three part panel for the wilderness preserve. I love woodpeckers and really enjoy illustrating them. Acorn Woodpeckers have so much character and are really cool looking birds, so I was happy when the designer wanted to show a group of them, including one in flight.
