Flamboyant Cuttlefish – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Flamboyant Cuttlefish:
The Flamboyant Cuttlefish – also called Pfeffer’s Flamboyant Cuttlefish – is a species of cephalopod native to the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific off northern Australia. Like other cuttlefish they are smart and formidable predators, feeding on fish, crabs and shrimp. They are closely elated to squid, octopus and the chambered nautilus. The cuttlefish’s flat body allows it to live and hover near the ocean bottom where it finds its favorite food. An outer shell once covered the cuttlefish’s body but has since evolved into a porous internal shell called a cuttlebone. The cuttlefish varies its buoyancy by varying the amount gas and liquid held in the holes of the shell.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Flamboyant Cuttlefish was completed on 6.19.2014. It had been many years since I’d drawn a cuttlefish, but the recently exhibit in Monterey on cephalopods inspired me to draw another. And there are few species that seemed more suited to drawn the the impressive Flamboyant Cuttlefish. The coloration is astonishing and it was a real pleasure to illustrate. The drawing is based on a photo by Todd Aki and was used with his permission.
