$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Lilac-Breasted Roller:
Lilac-Breasted Roller is a very colorful bird native to arid regions of sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula. It prefers woodlands, grasslands and open savannah, but requires trees to survive. It’s about 14.5 inches long (37 cm.) It is feeds on a variety of prey, including grasshoppers, beetles, lizards, crabs, and small amphibians. It will usually take this prey from the ground. The rollers, which are a family of bird, get their name from their elaborate courtship ritual, which include diving and rolling in the air, with a fast rocking motion, usually accompanied with loud vocalizations.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Lilac-Breasted Roller was completed on 10.14.2014. When I create a collage based on a geographical area it often morphs and changes as I learn more about the area. When it came to putting together a collage of animals of the Arabian Peninsula, I had picked out quite a few different animals, but realized that they weren’t quite right. I had seen photos of the Lilac-Breasted Roller, but wasn’t too encouraged to draw it, despite its wonderful coloration. When I learned it was native to the Arabian Peninsula, I knew it needed to be added to the collage. The drawing is based on a photo by Hennie van Heerden and was used with permission.
