Information about the Crimson Rosella:

Crimson Rosella is species of parrot native to eastern and south eastern Australia. It has also been introduced to New Zealand as well as nearby Norfolk Island. It is most commonly found in mountain forests. It grows to be about 14 inches long (36cm) most of which is tail feathers. There are five subspecies of this parrot, three of which are crimson colored, the others are yellow and a hybrid of red and yellow. While these parrots are not endangered, they do face threats from habitat loss, attacks from non-native domestic animals such as dogs and cats. They are sometimes kept as pets.

Artist’s notes:

The Crimson Rosella was completed on 2.16.2015. In one of the Facebook groups I belong to someone posted an image of a Crimson Rosella. I don’t recall seeing this bird before – either in person or a photo – before. But when I saw it I knew I needed to draw it. I found a great reference photo by a highly talented wildlife Australian photographer Pete Taylor (who was kind enough to give me permission) and I created this illustration.
