Information about the Hermit Thrush:
The Hermit Thrush is a small passerine songbird native to most of North America. They are about 5.5–7.1 inches long (14–18 centimeters) with a wingspan of 9.8–11.4 inches (25–29 centimeters) weighing about 0.8–1.3 ounces (23–37 grams.) In he summer these birds generally hunt for insects such as beetles, ants, flies and wasps on the forest floor, but in the winter they switch over to plant matters like berries and other fruits. They are found in various environments, including urban and even city areas. It is the state bird of Vermont.

Artist’s notes:
The Hermit Thrush was completed on 8.3.2012. Songbirds – particularly those native to North America – are and will always be a favorite subject of mine. I really love the patterning on the birds breast. Seeing as this thrush is the state bird of Vermont, I had to completed a drawing of for the 50 State Project. The drawing is based on a photo by Johanna van de Woestijne
