$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Northern Spotted Owl:
The Northern Spotted Owl is one of three subspecies of Spotted Owls native to the thick, old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. This bird of prey has a length of 17 inches (43 centimeters) with a wingspan of roughly 45 inches (114 centimeters) weighing about 21 ounces. (600 grams.) The females of the species is usually a little larger than the males. The animal is considered near threatened, due to habitat loss and now most of the surviving population (thought to be only about 3,000 to 5,000 mated pairs) lives on federal land that is protected. Like most owls, Strix occidentalis caurina is a nocturnal hunter, feeding on small mammals, reptiles, insects and other birds. They ingest their prey whole and later regurgitate a pellet of fur, feathers and bones.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The original drawing of a Northern Spotted Owl was completed on 4.22.2012. This bird marks the tenth species of owl I’ve drawn, making them one of the more frequent subjects I’ve illustrated. I do have a special fascination with these impressive hunters, as I think many people do. Owl symbolize such much to humans, and are important to our culture as well as being critical apex predators in their natural environment.
