Willow Ptarmigan – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Willow Ptarmigan:
The Willow Ptarmigan – also called the the Willow Grouse or the Red Grouse in the UK – is a member of the family Phasianidae, which are a group of birds that includes pheasants and partridges. It is a somewhat inactive or sedentary species, spending much time in the undergrowth or perched in low bushes or scrubby trees. The plumage changes much for the bird from summer to winter, with the males having a marbled, brownish-red hue from the neck to breast. Both males and females molt their feathers in winter and become entirely white, to match the winter landscape. The Willow Ptarmigan is the official state bird of Alaska.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil

Artist’s notes:
The Willow Ptarmigan was completed on 5.4.2012. So, a few weeks ago I got it into my head to draw all official state animals (animals that have been made official symbols of the various states of the US. When I started I really thoughts it would be pretty easy, as I felt I’d have most of the animals already drawn and in my image library. I was wrong, and to complete this project I’ll probably need to create drawings for about 150-200 animals. This is also going to be a problem when I reach certain states – like Iowa – that has only ONE officially declared state animal. This drawing is based on a photo by Daniel Leifheit.
